It is Labor Day. Had a nice 3 mile run this morning. Yes, there was some walking involved…but I am feeling a like I have a little more aerobic capacity than I did back on August 22nd. My couch to 5k routine will be to run/walk on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. I'll bike on Tuesdays and use Thursdays and Sundays as rest days. November 1st 5k is only two months away.
I can't believe I am 56 years old. Doesn't seem that long ago as a 24 year old in Riverton, Wyoming when I thought I'd train for the Ironman Triathalon (Yes, the Hawaii one). Then I was 33 years old and in fantastic shape at the Army Management Staff College. Then I was in great shape at 38 and ran the St. George Marathon. Then I ran the Huntsville, UT half marathon two years ago. Unbelievable how fast it has been from 24 years old to 56.
Speaking of 5ks, I remember running one on 4th of July in Tooele, UT the year I was training for my marathon. I ran it in 17' 50". I was flying! I am hoping that I'll be able to run this upcoming 5k in less than 30 minutes without walking. The main difference between then and now? About 3 - 15 pound bowling balls of weight I am packing around on my frame now. Ugh!!!!
After this 5k I am going to find a 10k to run. Once I have the 10k under my belt I'll have the Kevin running granslam: 5k, 10K, 1/2 marathon, and full marathon.
Until next time, happy trails to you!

Time
Wow time flies when you're having fun, and even if you aren't. Since the last post Doreen and I have relocated to Mesquite, NV; kids have had two more kids (grandkids); Kennie got married; and my youngest, Morganne, is a senior in high school.
Oh ya, I also turned 56…ugh. How did that happen? Hmmm…time-no one's ally. Speaking of time, the goals I had listed in my last blog for last year…didn't happen. I basically set the same running goals for 2014 and they aren't going to happen either.
The good news? I signed up for a 5k in St. George, UT on November 1. So I basically have to go from couch potato to some semblance of running in a little over 60 days. Ready? Set? Go! I'm looking forward to the training, shedding some lbs., and losing some of my grandpa's big belly that I swore when I was younger I would never have.
Time, sneaky little devil. Creeps up on you and engulfs you if you don't manage it wisely. Even if you do, it will always catch up to you in this life.
For now…happy trails to you.
