Crazy, Dumb, Fun?

Two posts in one year! Haven't done that in a while!! You might be wondering about the title of this post. After you read this, you might be wondering about my sanity ;)  While sitting at my home office desk lamenting the fact that I weighed in at a shade over 200 pounds (late October 2025), I came up with a new running plan for 2026. What is this plan/goal? Run a 5k, a 10k, a half marathon, and a full marathon in a 12 month period. Ya, pretty stupid, I know.

The best part is that it is going to pretty much be a couch to whatever distance you want to plug in there. I don't think I could even run one mile, downhill, at a 13 minute pace right now. Well, why not give it a try and see what happens.

I am shooting for a turkey trot 5k coming up this Thanksgiving. I know it will be more walking than running. But, I have to start somewhere, sometime. Wish me luck on this insane journey. Until next time - Happy trails to you!

67 Year Old Update

Well, not much running has happened over the last while, more walking. Sucks getting older. Anyway, Brittany and I committed yesterday to running a 10k in January 2026. Soooo, I will start doing more running and less walking over the next few months. Kinda excited to do this!

Moved from Mesquite, NV this year to Washington, UT. Changed jobs and that really slowed down my running efforts.

Anyway, I will check in with you all (if there is anyone at all) as this little journey progresses. Until then, yep, you know it - Happy trails to you!

66 Year Old Update

Well, my running has definitely faded off into the sunset. As of today, I have logged 99 miles of running. Pretty pitiful, I know. A far cry from when I logged over 400 miles in 2017. I guess it's good that I still get up and try...and am healthy enough to be able to. In my defense, I have spent quite a bit of time on the stationary bike due to the hot, smoky summer so it wasn't like I wasn't doing anything. I will try to close this year out strong and hopefully have a great report at 67 years old sometime next year. Until then, happy trails to you!

65 Year Old Update

Well, here I am…65 years old and still kicking, well not kicking but still running. Not fast mind you, but still able to move one foot in front of the other at a sub-10 minute per mile pace without any physical pains. I actually finished a 10k (Snow Canyon) last November (2022) in 1:06:19 (10:42/mile pace).

I never thought  I would be this active at this age. I guess I have been blessed with good genes and good luck. I am planning another race this fall, not sure if it will be a 10k or half marathon. Who knows, maybe it will be 100 yards. Anyway, until next time…Happy trails to you!

COVID Delays...2022 Already!

"Oh my!" As one of my all time favorite sports announcers would exclaim when something amazing or crazy would happen during a football game. Anyway, here we are a few years down the road. The last post was in February 2020, just before the COVID pandemic struck. It's been a crazy two years since then.

Running has been a bit of a challenge over the past two years. In 2020 I was training for the Snow Canyon half marathon and I had a bout of achilles tendonitis that took me down. In 2021 I was training again and I developed morton's neuropathy in my left foot. That caused me to go on a wild shoe shopping/hunting spree to try and find a shoe or shoes that would allow me to run, yet not suffer the effects of the neuropathy. For those of you that don't know what morton's neuropathy is, it is a feeling of your sock balling up under the ball of your foot, or the feeling that a pebble is lodged under the ball of your foot.

My shoe search led me to the following shoes that I love and they seem to work...although they haven't gone past three miles, yet. They are: Hoka One One Clifton 7, Saucony Triumph 18, and New Balance 1080v10. I tried another 15 or so brands and models but these three seemed to feel the best.

Anyway, here I am at 64 years of age training for another half marathon attempt. Yes, the Snow Canyon one. Hopefully I will be able to make it relatively pain free and complete the race. Time will tell...

Until the next update - happy trails to you!

2020!

Wow! 2020 is here already. I can't believe how fast time flies by, and yet, running time slows down. Since my last post, I basically took most of December (2019) and all of January off from exercise (except walking). Starting back up now. I had one run in January and thus far two runs in February. All three of the runs had a lot of walking in them and I never ran more than two miles and the average pace has been 12'30". Ya, slow. But slugging away again. Anyway, I am just doing a quick update. Until next time, happy trails to you!

There You Are!

Well, well, well...it has been a long time since we've last talked. Yep, Running Man has returned, returned from Couch Potato Man. Since the half marathon in 2017, I've had issues with a silly meniscus that flared up in November 2018 and lasted until April 2019. I then started walk/running and then got the stupid idea that I should try another half-marathon.

So. Here I am, trying to prepare for the Washington City, UT half-marathon in February 2020. Stupid huh? I will have just turned 62 years old. My longest run this year was November 23, 2019 and it was only 4.2 miles at a slow 10:50 pace. Oh well, here I go.

More to come over the next couple of months. Until next time...Happy Trails to YOU!!!
