Way to Go Brittany!

Well,  it happened...yes Brittany and I ran (she ran), I ran most (and walked some) of the very first Huntsville, Utah half marathon on September 29th. I had three goals going into the race:

1) finish
2) not get last in the half marathon
3) not get passed by the first place marathoner

I met all three goals! Wow the finish line was so beautiful. When I play golf, and when I putt, I putt the ball so it pretty much gets to the hole without much left to get there. Seldom do I go way past the hole. Well, that is how my finish in the half marathon was, I don't think I could have gone any further than that finish line...ugh!

Remember that post I had back in May or so about smells? Well guess what was waiting for me at mile 6.5? A squished skunk. Ugh! Gag!! Gag reflex!!! Major coughing event!!!! Fortunately Brittany had left me in the dust by then and she didn't have to see my contorted face.

Anyway, we did it and now it is time for a little rest. Until next time...happy trails to you. And here are a couple of pictures for you to enjoy. I will let you guess who is who.

I just finished a very slow paced 10 mile run this morning (1 hour, 48 minutes). However, it has been my longest run in seven years. Back in January I never thought I could even come close to doing that. Only 4 weeks to go till the Huntsville half marathon. I just might be able to finish it...I believe that sounds like the goal many of us have right now, right Brittany? You rock for even trying! And to all the others out there trying, keep it up. If you don't try, you won't get anywhere. Until next time...Happy trails to you!

I would dare say you will all be faster at this than I am, but the goal is to finish! If I make it that far at this point I will be happy. I keep going back and forth on my training, and my long runs..well they haven't so much happened yet. Still running at most 5 miles a day. So here is to another few weeks of hopefully disciplining myself and training a little harder.

Sunday, August 12, 2012

Well, I was doing quite well up until three weeks ago. Trips to Indio, California and Lake Powell have derailed my training. I have about six weeks to go and will have to be lucky and stay healthy to finish the half marathon. I will do my best!

Glad to see Brittany committing to the run, and Brandon is also. We shall have a great start to the race and then Brittany and Brandon will have to wait for me at the end.

Nonetheless, we shall have fun! Until then, happy trails to you...

Huntsville Marathon You Say...

Well I was hopeful to be more consistent with my running through the summer that has not been the case. I am still running regularly but only a 4-5 mile run every other day or so. I am going to challenge myself to be up to 10 by mid August and if I can do that I will run the half with you! wish me luck!

Wow, it has been a while. Since the last post I have dealt with a nasty cold and a bum left knee. I am now over those problems (knock on wood). Today I ran 4.2 miles and while I felt gassed at the end, I also felt pretty good. I am still on track to run the Huntsville half marathon in September. I am very excited about that. If you want to know more about it, here is the link to the web site:

Hope to see you there! Until next time...happy trails to you!

You Wouldn't Believe It

A couple days ago I posted about smells. Well, I was having a great short 2 mile run before work this morning and after about a mile...yup, you probably guessed it. The stink of all stinks...SKUNK!!!! UGH!!!!!

Fortunately I was not directly sprayed. However, whomever or whatever did get sprayed was probably near death. I couldn't have been much behind the spray time as the smell was overpowering (yes, tears to the eyes, gag reflex, coughing were all invoked at the same time).

What a way to kill a great run. Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

Until then, happy trails to you.

Stinky Smells

I just finished a nice 3 mile run. During the run, a diesel truck drove by and was spitting out it's exhaust. After breathing the fumes, I gagged, coughed and thought I would post the things I love to smell and not smell during a run (or any other time). Things I like to smell:

1) Nothing, just fresh air.
2) Fresh laundry drying exhaust.
3) Flowering trees in bloom.
4) Pine trees.

Things I don't like so much:

1) Skunk (duh).
2) Diesel exhaust.
3) Fertilizer.
4) Perfume/after shave.

I do have an extra sensitive olfactory nerve so that may contribute to my problem.

So, there you have it. I guess this post is like a lot of Facebook posts that are somewhat ridiculous and you think, did that person really have to share that with the world? I think now I just caught a glimpse of the beauty and stupidity of it.

Happy trails to you!

Marathon (half) Man Back At IT

I just finished a nice short 2 mile run that only required 3 stops along the way. That is a big accomplishment from a few weeks ago where there were at least 10 stops, a lot of hacking, and just painful, non-enjoyment. I also completed a 3 mile run/walk a couple days ago. Now, if I can make the three bowling balls worth of weight magically disappear, my speed would start to increase.

Anyway, it is nice to be back at having a running goal (Huntsville half-marathon) and starting to progress towards that goal.

Until next time, happy trails to you...

I To Am Back At It

What a surprise to see family posting again! Well, I have committed to myself and some others to run the 1st Huntsville, Utah half marathon in September 2012. I am a volunteer on the organizing committee so I have to commit to something. I had my first outdoor run today...a slow 2 miles in 22:30. I have a long way to go.

Anyway, happy trails to you all!

January

First month have been consistent running...up to 3.1 miles three times a week. Took the last week off for vacation hoping to be able to pick up where I left off.
